Wild Swimming

Terms of use

Last updated 12 September 2026

These terms apply to your use of this website. Please read them before you use it, and in particular the sections on assumption of risk and limitation of liability.

Who we are

This website is published by Seelaw LTD, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 15755364, whose registered office is at 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom. You can contact us at info@findwildswimming.com.

We publish an information directory. We do not own, operate, manage, maintain, inspect, patrol or supervise any location listed on this site, and we have no connection with the landowners, occupiers, authorities or other bodies responsible for them.

These terms apply to your use of this site. By using it, you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.

Assumption of risk

Swimming in open water is inherently dangerous. Publishing information about a location does not make it less so.

The risks include, but are not limited to, drowning, cold water shock, hypothermia, strong or hidden currents, tides, sudden changes in depth, submerged objects, slippery or unstable ground, water levels rising quickly after rainfall, contaminated water and illness, and the absence of any supervision or rescue cover.

Conditions at any location change constantly, and nothing published here can tell you what you will find on the day. The decision to enter the water is yours alone. You are responsible for assessing the conditions at the time, for judging your own ability and equipment, and for anyone in your care. You should never treat this site as your only source of information.

If you are new to open water, the RNLI's Float to Live guidance and RLSS UK's open water safety advice are a sensible place to start.

Information only, and no warranty

This site is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not warrant that anything published here is accurate, complete or current, and we do not promise that the site will be uninterrupted or free from errors.

Access routes, parking, ownership, permissions, fees, facilities, walking times, water conditions and water quality all change, and they can change without any notice to us. Any live readings shown on this site are supplied by other organisations and may be delayed, incomplete or wrong.

Nothing on this site is professional, medical or safety advice. Nothing on it is permission to enter any location, and nothing on it is an encouragement to disregard a sign, a barrier or a closure.

If you believe something published here is wrong, please tell us at info@findwildswimming.com.

Access and permission

There is no general right to swim in inland water in England, Wales or Northern Ireland. In Scotland, the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 and the Scottish Outdoor Access Code give a right of responsible access to most inland water.

The inclusion of a location on this site is not a right of way and it is not permission to be there. You are responsible for obtaining any permission you need, for not trespassing, and for complying with any byelaw, closure, permit requirement or parking restriction that applies.

If you own or manage a location listed here and the position is not as we have published it, please contact us at info@findwildswimming.com and we will correct the page or remove it.

Limitation of liability

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are not affected.

Subject to that, and to the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • we do not assume any responsibility or duty of care in relation to your decisions about where, when or whether to swim, or in relation to your visit to any location described on this site
  • we are not liable for any loss, damage, injury, illness or other harm arising out of or in connection with your use of this site, your reliance on anything published on it, or your presence at any location described on it
  • we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for any loss of profit, revenue, data or goodwill

You use this site, and you visit any location described on it, at your own risk.

Your responsibilities

When you use this site, and when you visit any location described on it, you agree to:

  • comply with the law, and with any signs, closures, byelaws and permit requirements that apply
  • respect private property and not to trespass
  • supervise anyone in your care
  • leave the location as you found it and take your litter away with you
  • not act in a way that puts other people at risk, including anyone who might have to assist you

You agree to indemnify us against any claim, loss, liability or reasonable cost we incur as a result of your breach of these terms or of any unlawful act on your part.

Intellectual property and acceptable use

Where material is used under licence, the credit shown with it identifies the owner and the licence, and any reuse of that material is on the terms of that licence and from its owner rather than from us.

  • extract or re-use all or a substantial part of our database
  • use any part of this site to train, fine tune, ground or evaluate a machine learning model, or to build or contribute to a dataset
  • copy, republish, redistribute, frame or present any part of this site as your own
  • interfere with the operation of this site or with anyone else's use of it

Any other use needs our written permission. If you would like to use something from this site, write to info@findwildswimming.com.

Third-party links and data

This site links to other websites and displays data supplied by other organisations. We do not control them, we are not responsible for their content, their accuracy or their availability, and a link is not an endorsement.

Changes to these terms

We may change these terms. The version published on this page is the version in force, and the date above shows when it last changed. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept it.

Governing law

These terms, and any dispute arising out of them, are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the law where you live, and you may bring proceedings in your local courts.
